There's a different maximum credit depending on what product is purchased.

You'll get a credit of 30% of your yearly expenses for energy efficient purchases, if you buy:

solar, wind, geothermal power generators,

solar water heaters,

fuel cells,

and

battery storage.

You'll get a credit of 30% of your yearly expenses, up to $1,200, if you buy:

exterior doors, windows, insulation,

biomass stoves, boilers,

central air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, boilers, heat pumps,

and

home energy audits.

Asphalt roofs are no longer eligible for a credit.
